Recyclers of the Month – March 2015

Roommates Jamie Ackerman and Rachel Randall and are the City of Hartsville’s Recyclers of the Month for March 2015.

As relatively recent college graduates now living on their own in a city with recycling services, they said they felt a responsibility to recycle.

“It was never a question of whether or not we were going to recycle,” Ackerman said. “It was accessible. We picked it up the second we got here.”

A Moment with the Manager – The value of city services

Fairly often, residents bring us commendations for City of Hartsville employees who are helping people around our community. The Fire Department, for example, has recently taken part in inspecting and installing smoke alarms in targeted neighborhoods. Our police officers, meanwhile, are handling everything from wellness checks to crowd assistance for events in addition to their regular patrols and investigations. City of Hartsville seeking committee volunteers

The City of Hartsville is seeking individuals who are interested in making the community an excellent place to live and work by serving on its boards, committees and commissions.

Click here for a list of current vacancies. For those interested in serving, applications are available in the City Clerk’s office, first floor of Hartsville City Hall, 100 E. Carolina Ave., Monday to Friday, or online. The deadline for applications is April 17, 2015.

Hartsville Area Recreation Department to host Blood Drive

The Hartsville Area Recreation Department will host a blood drive at the Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center, 701 W. Washington St., on Wednesday, April 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donation times may be scheduled by contacting Darlene Brown at 843.339.2878, or visiting www.redcrossblood.org, with sponsor code “cityofhartsville.”

Generally, donors are eligible if they are in good health and feeling well, at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with parental consent, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Additional […]

Tree removal and traffic closure taking place at East Carolina Avenue and Second Street on March 24

Crews are scheduled to remove two hazardous trees at the intersection of East Carolina Avenue and Second Street in Hartsville on Tuesday, March 24. The entire intersection will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic beginning at about 9 a.m. and lasting all day.

Tree removal taking place at East Home Avenue and Fourth Street on March 12

On Thursday, March 12, crews will be removing a hazardous tree at the intersection of East Home Avenue, Fourth Street and Laurel Oak Street in Hartsville. This work was originally scheduled to take place in February, and was postponed because of inclement weather.
