Jessica Cohen named Director of Hartsville’s Tourism and Special Events

Jessica Cohen has been named Director of Hartsville’s Tourism and Special Events, the City of Hartsville announced today. Cohen, who has been serving as Darlington County Tourism’s Director, will transition to the new position beginning July 6.

Cohen will lead Hartsville’s newly created Tourism Office, a project of the City of Hartsville and the Community Foundation for a Better Hartsville, which will be located in Hartsville City Hall and serve as a resource for the area’s events and recreational opportunities. […]

Screen on the Green bringing “The Boxtrolls” to the big screen June 27

UPDATED: Because of the forecast of rain, Screen on the Green is moving to Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center, 701 W. Washington St. at Byerly Park.

The 2014 stop motion animation movie “The Boxtrolls” is coming to the City of Hartsville’s Screen on the Green free movie series on Saturday, June 27 in a showing sponsored by Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.

Recyclers of the Month – June 2015

Cheryl and Johnny Taylor are the City of Hartsville’s Recyclers of the Month for June 2015.

The Taylors say they often recycle items like newspapers, cans and bottles. Johnny said that if he ends up with a plastic bottle on hand when he’s away from home, he always takes care to bring it home and place it in his recycling bin.

Block of East Carolina Avenue closed June 25 for tree removal

The eastbound lane of East Carolina Avenue between First and Second streets will be closed tomorrow, June 25, beginning at about 8:30 to 9 a.m. as city crews remove a tree. The lane is expected to be closed through at least noon.

East College Avenue south parking lot closing Monday, June 29

Beginning Monday, June 29th, the East College Avenue City parking lot on the south side of the street, the lot closest to Carolina Avenue, will be closed as repaving work begins.

This is a portion of the project to repave East College Avenue, its sidewalks and parking lots, as well as Mantissa Row. The south lot will be closed for at least eight weeks beginning Monday.

Screen on the Green returns with showing of “Annie,” sponsored by Sheriff Wayne Byrd

The City of Hartsville’s Screen on the Green free movie series will continue  Saturday, June 13 with a showing of the 2014 version of the classic musical “Annie,” sponsored by Sheriff Wayne Byrd. The movie showing will take place in Burry Park, 131 Cargill Way, at dusk, 8:35 p.m. or later.
