Recycler of the Month – November 2015

Mamie Kelley is the City of Hartsville’s Recycler of the Month for November 2015.

She said she has been careful to recycle items for a long time, especially plastic bottles and paper, and keeps a bucket in her kitchen to collect recyclables until she’s ready to move them to her outside roll cart.

“It’s very easy to carry it out in a bag, and it helps keep things clean around your house,” Kelley said.

Choirs, dance groups and the Lizardmen to perform at the City of Hartsville Christmas Tree Lighting Dec. 4

The City of Hartsville Christmas Tree has received a bigger and bigger welcome ceremony in recent years, and 2015 will bring together the greatest event yet when dance groups, singers, and the members of the local band the Lizardmen take part in the annual City of Hartsville Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 4, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Changes in trash and recycling pickups for Thanksgiving holidays

City of Hartsville utility customers will see a couple of changes in their trash and recycling pickup schedules for the Thanksgiving holidays. The regular Thursday route will be collected Wednesday, Nov. 25, and the regular Friday route will be collected Monday, Nov. 30. For more information, contact Environmental Services at 843.383.3019.

Hartsville Fire Department’s Boots and Buckets fundraiser to bring many local families a Merry Christmas

Around the Hartsville area last year, 105 families facing difficulty providing Christmas gifts for their children received some help from the Hartsville Fire Department’s Boots and Buckets fundraiser, bringing a brighter holiday season to 215 children. Now, Hartsville shoppers will get another opportunity to contribute to this powerful community effort, as the Fire Department brings back the annual program the day after Thanksgiving.

Hartsville Fire Department reminds residents to think safe when cooking this Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, the City of Hartsville Fire Department would like to remind everyone who will be cooking this year to be careful and never leave the stove unattended while in use.

The way a community is seen dramatically impacts recruitment and retention of people and businesses alike. Repaving of remaining City of Hartsville parking lot on East College Avenue scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 16

Motorists in downtown Hartsville will see the next phase in East College Avenue infrastructure improvements begin on the morning of Monday, Nov. 16, as the parking lot between Sophia’s Pizzeria and the Arcade Barbershop closes to allow repaving work to begin. The work will continue through at least the following six weeks, subject to weather conditions. All other City of Hartsville downtown parking lots will remain open during this time.
