Hartsville residents looking for a way to appropriately dispose of weathered or damaged United States flags can now use a drop box at the Hartsville Fire Department to ensure the flag’s correct retirement.
The drop box can be found at the department’s location at 111 S. Seventh St., behind the flagpole. Flags placed in the box will be taken to local Boy Scout groups or American Legion representatives and destroyed through a flag retirement ceremony. The box came about after numerous residents asked the department for respectful flag disposal options.
