City officials and community members gathered Tuesday, May 13, 2025, for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of the new inclusive playground at Pride Park, located at 630 South 6th Street in Hartsville. Thoughtfully designed to accommodate children of all abilities, the playground ensures that those with special needs and disabilities can play side by side with their peers.
The renovated space features adaptive and accessible play equipment tailored to a wide range of physical and developmental needs. At the heart of the playground’s design is a 5-to-6-inch-thick layer of soft, recycled tire foam, offering both enhanced safety and improved accessibility for wheelchairs and mobility devices.
This $107,428 project was funded through a combination of resources, including a generous $20,000 grant from Duke Energy. The remaining $87,428 was provided through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to the City of Hartsville.
The Pride Park upgrade is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing recreational facilities and creating inclusive spaces that serve all residents. Community response has been enthusiastic, with children eager to explore the new playground and city leaders even joining in on the fun.
The All-Play Playground at Pride Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset and is free for public use.
