Hartsville, SC: The City of Hartsville is proud to announce that its Main Street Program will host the Main Street America Community Transformation Workshop from October 13–15, 2025, the first time this nationally recognized event will take place in South Carolina.

“The City of Hartsville, through its Main Street Program, is honored to host the Community Transformation Workshop and shine a spotlight on the small businesses that are the backbone of our downtown,” said City Manager Daniel Moore. “Their hard work, creativity, and resilience have shaped a district we’re proud to share with communities nationwide. We’re also grateful to Main Street South Carolina for their continued support and partnership in helping our local businesses grow and thrive.”

This three-day workshop will bring together Main Street program directors, revitalization professionals, and national experts to share innovative strategies, explore revitalization techniques, and collaborate on strengthening historic downtowns across the country. The workshop will kick off with classroom-style sessions in Columbia, SC, on Monday and Wednesday, featuring insights from national leaders in downtown revitalization. On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, workshop attendees will travel to Hartsville for full day of field touring downtown businesses, meeting with local stakeholders, and witnessing firsthand how revitalization strategies are being implemented.

More than 50 downtown development professionals from across the U.S. are expected to participate, offering Hartsville a unique opportunity to showcase both its accomplishments and challenges, while gaining valuable feedback and inspiration.

“We are thrilled that Hartsville was selected to host Main Street America’s national workshop this October,” said Jenny Boulware, State Coordinator for Main Street South Carolina. “Hartsville’s team stood out in a competitive process, demonstrating the readiness and commitment to welcome revitalization professionals from across the country. This workshop will deliver data, strategies, and connections that will empower Hartsville and communities statewide. It’s a major milestone that puts South Carolina’s Main Street network in the national spotlight.”

Main Street Hartsville is a fully funded program of the City of Hartsville and is accredited by both Main Street South Carolina and Main Street America. Its mission is to enhance, promote, and preserve Downtown Hartsville as a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable hub for business and community life.

“Hosting the Community Transformation Workshop is an incredible milestone for Hartsville,” said Matt Winburn, Main Street Hartsville Manager. “This is a chance to showcase our historic downtown, learn from the best in the field, and engage our entire community in shaping what comes next.”

Community Engagement Opportunity

  • Residents, visitors, and supporters of Downtown Hartsville are encouraged to contribute to the workshop’s success. From July 12 through August 16, a short community survey will be available at Main Street Hartsville, offering an opportunity to share thoughts and ideas about the future of downtown Hartsville. Feedback from the survey will help guide workshop discussions and inform long-term revitalization plans.
