Today, friends, family, and community members gathered together for a special ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony in honor of Maceo McQueen Haynesworth Sr.
The newly named Maceo McQueen Haynesworth Sr. Basketball Court stands as a tribute to a man who has devoted his life to uplifting Hartsville’s youth—especially through recreational sports that create opportunities, build confidence, and strengthen our community.
Mayor Casey Hancock and Maceo’s longtime friend Carl Days shared heartfelt remarks, recognizing his passion for mentorship and the tremendous impact he has had on young people, particularly within the African American community. His dedication has shaped lives, strengthened families, and contributed to the vibrant, united Hartsville we know today.
Mayor Pro Tem Bryson Caldwell, who first brought this naming idea forward, reflected on just how far Maceo’s generosity continues to reach:
“This dedication is more than a name on a court—it’s a reflection of who Maceo is. He doesn’t just encourage kids to play sports; he goes out of his way to make sure they have the chance. Maceo has picked kids up, driven them to register, and paid their fees if they couldn’t afford it. That kind of heart and commitment has shaped generations in this community. Honoring him here ensures his legacy lives on in every child who steps onto this court.”
We are grateful to celebrate Maceo’s impact in a place where future generations will learn, grow, and play—just as he continues to inspire so many to do.
Thank you, Maceo, for the lasting imprint you have made on all of Hartsville.
