Phase II of the Marion Avenue Cemetery restoration is officially underway in the City of Hartsville.
This week, David Givens and his team from TerraSearch Geophysical are conducting a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey at the historic cemetery. This non-invasive technology will allow the team to accurately determine the number and locations of graves, providing critical data to support preservation efforts while maintaining the integrity of the site. A detailed report will be submitted to the City of Hartsville following completion of the survey.
Community members are invited to observe the GPR survey in action on Thursday, February 26 after 10:00 a.m.
This project represents a meaningful step forward in Phase II of the cemetery’s restoration. We appreciate the leadership of Gerald Malloy and the City of Hartsville for securing funding to support this effort. The progress made over the past several years would not have been possible without the tireless advocacy and dedication of Adlena Graham.
Historic preservation requires collaboration, commitment, and community support. We are proud to continue honoring and protecting Hartsville’s history for future generations.
