Fire & Life Safety
Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is the Hartsville Fire Department’s proactive approach to keeping the community safe, before emergencies happen.
Rather than only responding to fires and emergencies, CRR focuses on identifying risks, educating the public, and putting safety measures in place to prevent incidents or reduce their impact.
How It Works in Hartsville
For the Hartsville Fire Department, Community Risk Reduction means working closely with residents, businesses, and community partners to create a safer environment through:
- Fire prevention efforts to reduce the risk of fires in homes and businesses
- Inspections and permits to ensure buildings meet fire safety codes
- Smoke alarm programs to help protect families at home
- Public education and outreach, including school visits and community events
- Emergency preparedness resources to help residents plan ahead
A Safer Community Starts Together
Community Risk Reduction is a shared effort. From firefighters and city staff to residents and business owners, everyone plays a role in making Hartsville a safer place to live, work, and visit.
Connecting with the Community
Some of the most meaningful moments happen outside of emergencies.
The department’s goal is to connect with every child in the fire district each year.
Our firefighters spend time in the community visiting schools, hosting tours, and participating in events like career days and Touch-a-Truck. One of the department’s goals is to connect with every child in the community each year, helping teach fire safety and build trust early on.
The department strives to ensure that children feel comfortable recognizing and approaching firefighters, even outside of emergency situations.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about responding to calls, it’s about being there for the people of Hartsville.
