Hartsville Fire Department offers drop box for proper U.S. flag retirements

Hartsville residents looking for a way to appropriately dispose of weathered or damaged United States flags can now use a drop box at the Hartsville Fire Department to ensure the flag’s correct retirement.

The drop box can be found at the department’s location at 111 S. Seventh St., behind the flagpole. Flags placed in the box will be taken to local Boy Scout groups or American Legion representatives and destroyed through a flag retirement ceremony. The box came about after […]

Hartsville City Council has addressed several issues recently with easy-to-see results, like its decision last week to fund new restroom facilities for Pride Park and Burry Park, or its approvals of bid awards a few months back for everything from demolitions of blighted homes inside City limits to upcoming repairs for the Hartsville Veterans Memorial.

Missed trash collection route Jan. 21

Because of an equipment failure, some of the Jan. 21 trash pickups were missed, covering the area from the 400 to the 800 block of West College Avenue. Pickups will occur on these streets along with Friday’s route as soon as weather conditions allow.

Missed trash collection route to be made up Jan. 15

Because of an equipment failure, some of the Jan. 14 trash pickups were missed including West College Avenue as well as the portions of Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Wren and Cedar which are located between Carolina Avenue and Home Avenue. Pickups will occur on these streets tomorrow, Jan. 15, beginning at 6 a.m. Recycling routes were not missed and are not moved to Friday.

Because of an equipment failure, a portion of the Jan. 13 trash pickups were missed including Barefoot Street, Sparrow Avenue, Oak Avenue, Hannah Avenue, Power Street, Locust Street and West Washington Street. Pickups will occur on these streets tomorrow, Jan. 14, beginning at 6 a.m. Recycling routes were not missed and are not moved to Thursday.
