Lucinda y las Flores de la Nochebuena, A Children’s Holiday Opera

December 1, 2018 @ 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Free

The students of Coker College’s Opera Workshop program are excited to present “Lucinda y las Flores de la Nochebuena,” a one-act children’s holiday opera written in 2015 by composer Evan Mack and librettist Joshua McGuire. This 45-minute bilingual opera is perfect for the entire family, centered on the Mexican legend of the poinsettia and its significance to the holiday season. A cast of Coker music area students will be joined by a chorus of students from the Hartsville Middle School 8th Grade Magnet Chorus, directed by Mrs. Kim Roberts. Directed by Dr. Christi McLain and conducted by Dr. Jerron Jorgensen, this opera will be performed for the public in Florence, SC at Central United Methodist Church on Nov. 28th at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 1st at 4 p.m. in Watson Theater on the campus of Coker College. As a part of a new outreach initiative by Dr. McLain, four private performances will also be given at Hartsville Middle School to over 1,600 Darlington County K–12 students. Admission is free with a free-will offering accepted at the door. For more information, please contact Dr. Christi McLain at cmclain@coker.edu
