The City of Hartsville in partnership with Black Creek Arts Council, Mezzoforte`, and North Industrial Machine is calling for submissions of designs for a metal sculpture to be placed in Centennial Park. This sculpture will be placed in Hartsville’s busy downtown district in Centennial Park, a park that was created to honor the 100-year anniversary of Hartsville’s founding. This contest will not only bring more beauty to Centennial Park and our downtown, but will also increase the commitment of the arts to our community.

The theme for this contest is: “What does Hartsville mean to you?” This project should be a celebration of the community and of the city and park in which it will be displayed. The contest is open to all artists with an interest in the community. Once finalists are chosen, a gallery display and reception will be held, catered by Mezzoforte`.

Judging will be conducted by a nine-person committee. The top ten entries will be placed for public display at the Black Creek Arts Council gallery in late February or early March where public votes will be solicited for a people’s choice award. A final winner will be chosen by the panel and will be announced at the reception taking place at the Black Creek Arts Council on that night. Catering will be provided by Mezzoforte`.

The 1st place winner will receive $500 in prizes from the City of Hartsville in addition to their design being displayed in Centennial Park. A People’s Choice winner will have the opportunity for their design to be constructed and placed on display in another public area. There will also be a Best Youth Entry for ages 12 and under selected by the panel. This winner will receive one tuition-free art class through Black Creek Arts Council.
