Hartsville, SC – April 28, 2018 – The City of Hartsville invites volunteers to spend a morning improving Hartsville’s neighborhoods by collecting trash and debris.

This year’s 16th Annual Great American Cleanup takes place, Saturday, April 28, 2018. The event will begin at Pride Park, 630 S 6th St. Volunteers may register and pick up their supplies at 8 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., participants will head into neighborhoods of their choosing to collect litter from sidewalks, street right-of-ways, and other areas.

This local event is part of a nationwide Great American Cleanup effort, sponsored by Keep America Beautiful. This year’s national Great American Cleanup marks the organization’s 20th Anniversary. The City of Hartsville is partnering with Keep Darlington County Beautiful, an affiliate of Palmetto Pride, for this program. In 2017, more than five million volunteers cleared away 186 million pounds of litter and debris from over 80,000 miles of roads.

The City of Hartsville will provide volunteers needed equipment: safety vests, gloves, bags and some grabbers. Participants may carry discarded tires to a receptacle located at the Environmental Services department at 500 Poole St. The event will end with a volunteer lunch provided at Pride Park around noon.

Those interested in volunteering for the Great American Cleanup can register online at hartsvillesc.gov. For questions, contact Brenda Kelley at brenda.kelley@hartsvillesc.gov or 843.383.3009.
