On Sunday, May 7 beginning at 3 p.m., Hartsville families can experience the oversized musical, “James and the Giant Peach”, performed by the Columbia Children’s Theatre at the Center Theater located at 212 N. Fifth St.
When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach – among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities.
Presented by funding from the Duke Energy Foundation and the City of Hartsville, tickets are on sale starting at $8 for ages 12 and older and $6 for ages 3 to 11. Children under the age of 2 will gain free admittance. Tickets can be purchased online through Vendini at http://bit.ly/2lTo0ID or in person at the historic Center Theater or at The Key, Hartsville’s Visitors Center, located at 106 E. Carolina Ave. Elementary school students identified through the TEACH Foundation’s Pulse program will receive free tickets thanks to funding by the Duke Energy Foundation.
“The students at West Hartsville and Washington Street Elementary in the Partners for Unparalleled Local Scholastic Excellence (PULSE) program are eager to see ‘James and the Giant Peach’,” says Executive Director of the TEACH Foundation, Sharman Poplava, “Many students have read the book and it will be exciting to see it come alive for them on the stage.”
