Police DepartmentOfficers of the Hartsville Police Department will sit down for community discussions and coffee with local residents in an informal, neutral space Monday, Oct. 19 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Shoney’s Restaurant, 905 S. Fifth St. in Hartsville.

This meeting, part of the nationwide “Coffee with a Cop” effort, will give a time for residents to ask questions, discuss issues and learn more about the department’s work around Hartsville. All members of the community are welcome to take part in the session.

“We want to give our residents a time to talk to us, completely outside of any emergency or other difficult situation, “ Hartsville Police Capt. Mitch Stanley said. “When we come together for simple one-on-one discussions with the people we serve, we can build the relationships that make Hartsville a safe place. We’re planning to have several of these meetings over time.”

The national Coffee with a Cop initiative is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, promoting community meetings to develop relationships between law enforcement and community members.
