The Darlington County Board of Elections and Registration and The City of Hartsville announces the Special Election for The City of Hartsville to be Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Persons desiring to vote in this election must be registered by Sunday, April 18, 2021. To register, contact the Darlington County Board of Elections and Registration at 131 Cashua Street, Darlington, SC or 843-398-4900 or go to SCVOTES.GOV to register online.

Citizens desiring to be a candidate for District #1 as shown above must file in the City Clerk’s office, Hartsville City Hall, 100 East Carolina Ave, Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.  Books will open for filing at 12 noon on Friday, March 5, 2021 and remain open during regular business hours until 12 noon on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

 

The NON-REFUNDABLE filing fee for the office of Councilmember is $21.23.

 

Absentee ballots may be requested beginning March 5, 2021 at the Darlington County Board of Elections and Registration office located at 131 Cashua Street, Darlington, SC or by calling 843-398-4900. In person absentee voting will begin April 19, 2021 at the Darlington County Board of Elections and Registration office located at 131 Cashua Street, Darlington, SC. Last day for in person absentee voting will be Monday, May 17, 2021 at 5:00pm.

 

At 9:00am on said Election Day the Poll Managers will begin examination of the absentee ballots return envelopes.  This examination will be held at the Darlington County Board of Elections and Registration at 131 Cashua Street, Darlington, SC.

 

On Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 10:00am at 131 Cashua Street in Darlington, SC the Darlington County Board of Elections and Registration will hold a hearing to determine the validity of ballots challenged in this election and to certify the election.

 

Any runoff will be held two weeks after the general election on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
