Public Service DepartmentUPDATE — Hartsville residents can expect to see several physical improvement projects in downtown Hartsville in the coming weeks, including the repaving of a small portion of South Fourth Street and tree trimming along Carolina Avenue.

The block of South Fourth Street between East Carolina Avenue and Railroad Avenue, running alongside the Hampton Inn & Suites, will close during the day the week of Nov. 2, running through Friday, Nov. 6, to allow for street repaving. Installation of new sidewalks, streetlights, landscaping and new street parking spaces has already begun in this area.

The work comes as part of the Multi-County Business Park (MCBP)-funded projects which are also repaving East College Avenue and its public parking lots, as well as providing new streetscaping improvements to East College Avenue and a portion of Mantissa Row, where a downtown pocket park is under construction. Outside of downtown, the MCBP-funded projects begun early this year have also allowed for the construction of new traffic signals at the intersections of East Carolina Avenue and Second Street as well as South Fifth Street and Hartsville Crossing Boulevard.

Beginning this Friday evening, Oct. 30, workers will begin trimming back trees located in sidewalk planters along Carolina Avenue. Work will begin at the intersection of West Carolina Avenue and Sixth Street, and will then move east every evening over the coming weeks before concluding at East Carolina Avenue and Fourth Street.
